Aggregate Surface Course
2012 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION - SECTION 306

GENERAL

Compliance with density requirements for aggregate surface course construction is just as important as for aggregate base construction. Poor compactive efforts and failure to adhere to placement guidelines will result in settlement and rutting. Rutting of the surface during construction and prior to final grading and shaping should be repaired by scarifying to a depth below the ruts and recompacting to 98 percent of the maximum unit weight. The filling in of ruts by just blading the surface is not an adequate repair and will only lead to segregation and further rutting.
