Field Office
2012 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION - SECTION 809

GENERAL

The field office should be located within the limits of the project. The Contractor’s input is needed for the location selection. Locations outside the limits of the project may cause unnecessary costs, travel delays and communication problems. The parking area for MDOT and personal vehicles should be lighted and secured to prevent vandalism.

A field office shared by MDOT and the Contractor may create space and privacy problems for both parties. These concerns, by either party, should be addressed and resolved at the pre-construction meeting.

Density Gauges

Storage of the nuclear density gauge at a field office requires a locked closet, or a locked storage box within the office. Simply storing the gauge in its carrying case in the field office is not acceptable, per MDOT’s nuclear regulatory license and operating procedures. Any questions about storing the nuclear density gauges are to be referred to the Region Density Coordinator.

MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

A reminder that utility usage fees (electricity, gas and telephone charges) incurred by MDOT and paid by the Contractor are reimbursable to the Contractor. If the pay item is not established in the proposal, then a budget recommendation will be necessary to provide the monthly reimbursement of utility fees to the Contractor. The Contractor must submit a copy of the paid invoice to the Engineer. This verifies payment of the invoice prior to reimbursement. Reimbursement should not be made for invoices not marked paid.
