Division 3 Supplemental Information
MICHIGAN CERTIFIED AGGREGATE TECHICIAN PROGRAM TRANSITION
The purpose of this section is to clarify the transition from the single certification to the new Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.
All current certifications will continue until they expire. A technician with endorsements A, B, C, D, and E will be considered having the equivalent of a Level 2 rating until the certification expires.
Prior to the technician’s current Aggregate Certification expiring, they are to enroll in the Level 2 Recertification Class and maintain all of the old endorsements which will still be printed on the certificates. If the technician does not need to test concrete aggregates, successful completion of the Aggregate Testing Level One Class is required for sampling and testing Granular Materials, Fine, Dense-Graded and Open-Graded Aggregates.
- A Level 1 Certification will qualify a technician to conduct sampling, sample reduction, sieving, loss by washing and percent crushed.
- A Level 2 Certification will review Level 1 work plus teach deleterious particle determination, thin and elongated, specific gravity and absorption of fine and coarse aggregates.
New technicians must successfully complete the Level 1 course before participating in the Level 2 course. The Certified Aggregate Technician Program is part of Michigan’s Construction Quality Partnership curriculum.
