GENERAL

Obliterating roadway applies only on those portions of the existing or temporary roadway outside the limits of the new roadway. The ditches will be filled and roadway obliterated by grading operations. The grading will provide suitable drainage and produce an appearance blending with the surrounding ground contours. Natural appearing obstructions will be constructed or placed in the old roadway to prevent its use by traffic. Old structures will be broken down and buried or removed. When required, the obliterated roadway will be scarified effectively to mix any aggregate surfacing materials with earth and left in reasonably smooth condition. When approved, obliteration may be accomplished by breaking the pavement surface to provide drainage and covering the roadway to a depth of at least 12 inches (300 mm) with suitable material furnished by the Contractor. Obliterated areas will be topsoiled, seeded, fertilized and mulched as specified under Section 816 of the Standard Specifications for Construction.
