   Microstation Part 1

Course Overview

Part 1 of the Microstation Connect Edition learning path is a self-paced Bentley Learn course that is available to all MDOT CADD users.

This course is a pre-requisite for all other MDOT learning paths

This self-paced Bentley Learn course covers foundational knowledge for use basic Microstation tools as a civil designer. For consultant designers with access to Bentley Learn, this learning path is very similar to the MicroStation CONNECT Edition Learning Path for Civil Designers which is available to all Bentley Learn subscribers. Topics covered include:


  1. Introduction to MicroStation Connect Edition
  2. Controlling the Display of Designs for Civil Designers
  3. Using General Tools in MicroStation Connect Edition for Civil Designers
  4. Drawing with MicroStation for Civil Designers
  5. Additional Drawing Tools
  6. Manipulating and Modifying Elements for Civil Designers
  7. Working with Cells for Civil Designers
  8. Annotating Designs for Civil Designers


Course Pre-Requisites: This course assumes no previous knowledge of Microstation. There are no pre-requisites for this course. This course is a pre-requisite for all other MDOT learning paths.

Estimated Time to Complete: 32 Hours


   OpenBridge Modeler Part 1

Course Overview

Part 1 of the OpenBridge Modeler learning path is a self-paced Bentley Learn course that is available to all MDOT CADD users.

This self-paced Bentley Learn course covers foundational knowledge for using OpenBridge Modeler tools. For consultant designers with access to Bentley Learn, this learning path is very similar to the Introduction to OpenBridge Modeler learning path which is available to all Bentley Learn subscribers. Topics covered include:


  1. Getting Started with 3D in MicroStation
    1. Transitioning from 2D Drafting to 3D Designing
    2. Viewing 3D Geometry
    3. Clip Volumes
    4. Auxiliary Coordinate Systems
    5. AccuDraw with 3D Geometry
    6. Placing 3D Cells


  1. Introduction to OpenBridge Modeler
    1. Importing geometry and terrain models
    2. Modeling several types of bridges including:
      1. Prestressed Beam
      2. Steel I Girder
      3. Segmental
    3. Setting up the libraries
    4. Generating reports
    5. Inter-operation with the analytics products


  1. Creating Substructure Functional Components
    1. Define Skeletons
    2. Set Constraints
    3. Test and Error Correction
    4. Setup for OBM Usage


Course Pre-Requisites: This course assumes a working knowledge of basic Microstation functions. Users should review and complete the following courses prior to taking this course:


  1. Microstation Connect Edition Part 1 (Available to MDOT Employees via Bentley Learn)

OBM Basics provides introductory information for users new to OpenBridge Modeler including software, the MDOT Connect Configuration (Workspace), the OBM interface, and drawing tools.

Intro to Bridge Modeling

An introduction to developing a 3D bridge model, the course walks through the steps to rapidly create a 3D bridge model using Bridge Wizard and then correct/modify that model. This course is designed to be interactive. Download the dataset provided below. Then develop your own model while following the videos. Each video below corresponds to a dgn in the dataset of the same name (for the same step).
